It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: this year’s Block Party lineup is officially out. And with something for pretty much everyone, the student body is pretty psyched — and so are we. So, here’s Jerk’s breakdown on the biggest event of the semester:

Gucci Mane

This year’s headliner is Atlanta-based rapper, Gucci Mane. He’s best known for his hit, “I Get the Bag” ft. Migos, which made it to No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 2017. That, and his iconic (and questionable) ice cream cone face tattoo. Gucci’s been coming out with some of our favorite pregame tracks for a while; he was featured on Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” in 2016 and dropped his single “Both” in 2017, featuring Drake. To get hype for seeing Gucci up close and personal, we recommend listening to his album Mr. Davis, which was No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums this past November. And to really make your Mayfest look pop, we’ve found you the perfect Gucci Mane ice cream cone temporary tattoo.

SZA

Headlining alongside Gucci is R&B singer SZA, who rose to prominence through her Grammy-nominated 2017 debut album, Ctrl. The singer released what many fans considered a side hoe anthem, The Weekend; she later clarified the song is actually about three women sharing one trifling man, and not giving a single f*ck about it.

SZA also released one of the most beautiful lyrical odes to pussy we at Jerk have ever heard through Doves in the Wind, featuring Kendrick Lamar. In the song, the singer masterfully compares the value of bomb-ass pussy to the abundance of horny men in the world (and how little women need them).

You could never trivialize pussy

But a bum n**** like you would try it (pussy)

I know what you really ’bout

I hear your dick is weak, buddy

It’s only replaced by a rubber substitute

We ain’t feelin’ you

Most recently, she and Lamar collabed again on All the Stars, which was featured on the critically acclaimed Black Panther soundtrack.

Medasin

Although you may not think you’ve heard of the third featured artist coming to BP, you’ve probably heard his remixes while clubbing during spring break. Medasin has remixed some major chart toppers, like DJ Khaled and Rihanna’s “Wild Thoughts,” and “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man. Check out the 19-year-old’s beats on Spotify or SoundCloud.

The Block Party lineup comes as a wonderful surprise to anyone who has ears and hasn’t been living under a rock for the past few years. We’ve got SZA, queen of the chillest girl power anthems, Gucci Mane, our go-to hype man (finally free)  , and Medasin (who’s basically the kid sleeping in your lecture hall).
