With more Americans getting vaccinated every day and cases dropping across the country, this summer is looking to be miles better than last year’s, as some of our favorite activities begin to return. One major event to look forward to is the reopening of movie theaters. If you’re eager to get back to watching movies on the big screen, here are some of the biggest movies to keep an eye out for this summer.

1. Black Widow - Coming July 9th

Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought a welcome end to the long drought of MCU content brought on by the pandemic, but Black Widow will mark Marvel’s return to the big screen. Marvel fans everywhere are looking forward to seeing Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson) finally get her solo film debut and based on the action sequences and mysterious villains seen in the trailers, the movie looks to be a fast-paced spy thriller that won’t disappoint.

2. Candyman - Coming August 27th

Horror fans everywhere can look forward to the new addition to the iconic Candyman franchise. Jordan Peele wrote and produced this sequel, which takes us back to the Cabrini-Green neighborhood of Chicago and introduces the infamous Candyman to a new generation. Peele has been an exciting name in the horror genre after his successes with Get Out and Us, so this movie should definitely be on your list this summer.

3. In the Heights - Coming June 11th

If you’re looking for a more lighthearted and uplifting film, In the Heights is here to please. Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie offers up a heartfelt story and extravagant song and dance sequences. This is one flick guaranteed to send you out of the theater with a smile.

4. F9 - Coming June 25th

This year will mark the 20th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious, the first film in a franchise that’s expanded beyond belief over the past two decades. What better way to celebrate this anniversary than with a new film? F9 brings back Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family as they face off against a new threat: his brother (John Cena). If you want to see high-stakes action sequences and stunts that defy logic, F9 is set to deliver.

5. Space Jam: A New Legacy - Coming July 16th

Take a true nostalgia trip this summer with LeBron James and the Looney Tunes gang in Space Jam: A New Legacy. In this sequel to the 1996 cult-classic Space Jam, which starred fellow basketball legend Michael Jordan, James plays himself and is tasked with saving his son from a strange virtual world they find themselves trapped in. How? By assembling the Looney Tunes and winning a basketball game, of course.

6. The Suicide Squad - Coming August 6th

Black Widow isn’t the only comic book film hitting theaters this summer. DC will also join the summer blockbuster lineup with The Suicide Squad, a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. While the movie is bringing back fan-favorite Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), it will introduce some new faces to the team, such as skilled mercenary Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and the terrifying, but lovable King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone). This rated-R flick promises humor, gore, and a lot of overall craziness from this misfit group of anti-heroes.
