Crafting the Perfect Tinder Profile

It's truly an art.

tinder

When you walk into a job interview, you have about five seconds to sell yourself.  That’s five seconds to determine your future. Would you stand there with a blank face and stare at your interviewer for five seconds? If you want to blow your chance then yeah, go for it.

Tinder is no different.

The average swiper spends one to five seconds judging a Tinder profile before making the big decision. Naturally, physical attraction is the first impression. If they click on your profile to learn more, a single quote or solid anthem could determine the difference between a lifetime of happiness or yet another swipe left. For the average college kid, it’s the difference between a one-night stand and another night alone. Regardless, the stakes are high.

When entering the Tinder world, it’s vital you establish your intentions. Did you just get out of a serious relationship and want a rebound? Did you move to a new area and want to “explore” the population? Are you simply looking for a Jimmy Johns date? Knowing your objective will impact the vibe you should give off in your profile, as well as the type of person you’ll attract. Here are things to keep to mind to maximize your match-ability:

If you’re looking for a hook up

Let’s begin with the largest demographic on Tinder. Your hormones are raging and all you’re looking for is immediate and convenient action. That’s not too much to ask, right? At the same time, you should acknowledge you’re a boss ass bitch and will not settle for a blurry bathroom mirror selfie.

Include your college and age in the bio, because while a little mystery is always fun, complete anonymity is fucking creepy. To attract the pick of the litter, choose photos of you at parties with a couple friends (avoid large group photos) to set a ~flirty fun~ mood. Post photos where you look fire, but won’t give a false impression of who you are. To ensure potential suitors know exactly which party animal you are, add solo shot of you and an adorable pooch to the mix. Don’t be surprised when it becomes your top photo.

Since you’re looking to get right to the point, whip up a bio that does just that. It should be simple and suggestive. It should grab attention and let others know you’re exclusively DTF. Prime examples include, but are not limited to: “Let’s have a who’s better in bed contest. I’m hoping to be a sore loser” or “Your parents will love me, but your neighbors won’t.”

To complete your killer profile, choose an anthem that would get anyone in the mood. Good options include “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye, “Birthday Sex” by Jeremiah, “Slow Jamz” by Kanye West, and anything by Trey Songz.

Last but certainly not least, when the matches start pouring in, neverwe repeat, NEVERbegin a conversation with “hey what’s up?” Make an impression with a kickass pick-up line and your chances of a good ROI improve dramatically.

If you’re looking for a relationship

Welcome to Tinder’s Twilight-zone. While not unheard of, swipers seeking a serious relationship are significantly harder to come by. If you’re looking for more than a one-and-done, make that clear. Choose photos of you doing things you’re passionate about, and try to avoid generic selfies.  While you still want to look bomb, sex appeal should not be your primary focus if you’re pursuing a relationship that won’t revolve around sex.

While it may not be as bold and edgy, your bio should offer a few intriguing fun facts about you. Anything from your Chipotle order to your choice dance move will do. Give people something they want to learn more about. Your taste in music is also significant quality of your identity. Your anthem should be your go-to karaoke song. If the right person comes along, sharing the same taste in music is a great point of connection and perfect conversation starter.

Final thoughts

When using Tinder, try to keep an open mind—you don’t have much to lose. If there’s one piece of advice we could give for getting swiped right on, it’s to be someone you would want to match with.
