Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s time to whip out some barely-there get-ups that don’t even come close to holding up against the Syracuse cold. While you’re freshening up your sexy nurse costume or your cocaine-covered Charlie Sheen bowling shirt, take a snack break and nibble on some pumpkin spice bread. Wash it down with an eerily bloody rum, and head out for some holiday fun.

Pumpkin Spice Bread

1 cup pumpkin purée (canned)

½ cup vegetable oil

1 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 ½ cups flour

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

¼ tsp ginger (optional)

½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour one 9×5 loaf pan.

2. In a large bowl, mix pumpkin, oil, sugar, and eggs. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices and stir in until well blended. Pour into the loaf pan.

3. Bake for 45-60 minutes.

Bloody Rum

3 oz red wine

3 oz rum

Splash of grenadine

Lime

1. Mix red wine, rum and grenadine. Add freshly squeezed lime juice.

2. Garnish with a lime circle

Enjoy!
