Pretty much everyone can agree that porn is one of the better things in life. People watch it, attempt to make their own and even go to porn conventions. But there is one problem for certain, porn is often geared towards dudes and tends to objectify women in the process. It presents a distorted view of sex that is misleading and problematic when people start to think that it is how sex is supposed to go down in real life. By promoting gender equality, feminist porn is making sexy time even sexier.

Traditional porn tends to be from the heterosexual male perspective, but everyone other than Mike Pence knows that tons of people who are not straight men like to get down and dirty. Embracing sexuality does not have to equate to the humiliation, objectification, or sexualizing of women. Luckily, porn-loving, pro-sex feminists have come together to create a new genre of porn: Feminist porn. Feminist porn aims to represent sex in an accurate, consensual, and non-degrading way. Do not be misled by Pornhub’s “Porn for Women” section. Feminist porn is pro-women, while “Porn for Women” is often still from the male gaze and not shot in a way that empowers the women shown.

Most importantly, feminist porn provides a space for feminists to express themselves and their sexual desires. As Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti, of “Yes Means Yes” blog, have said, porn should show women as sexual collaborators with men, rather than as the “sexual conquests of men.” Many self-proclaimed feminists actually produce their own porn for this purpose, selecting feminist subjects and actors and displaying an emphasis on consent and female pleasure.

Porn provides a platform for people to embrace their sexuality, whatever that may be, and it shouldn’t be completely discarded because of its misogynistic undertones. It should evolve and change to include alternative perspectives. The future of porn is promising thanks to the feminists changing the porn industry.

When she’s not writing for Jerk, she spends her time DJing, splurging on extra guacamole at Chipotle, and finessing her finsta.
