The ‘Boost Your Guys’ Cinematic Universe

It’s that feeling when you roll into the driveway right as your song ends. That moment when you hit a clip in your video game right as the chorus comes in. It’s your windshield wipers syncing up with your Discover Weekly. It’s drinking herbal tea while your TRF roommate plays the “junglecore atmospheric house jazz mix” they found on TikTok. It’s the perfect storm.

Boost Your Guys is a group of college students who make videos that you can’t look away from. With dozens of different creators, each minute of the video is entirely different. It’s something you could stare at for hours without getting bored - which is convenient as each of their videos typically last anywhere from one to three hours.

Boost Your Guys was founded in 2021 by Jack Goodman, David Corro, Gerard Allen, and Oscar Hechter. It started as a passion project for the friends to edit entertaining videos, think fan edits and music videos - but with engaging visuals and video clips you would never would have come across on your own.

They have since expanded its empire, recruiting more students for each release to make their own personalized video to develop or show off their video editing skills. Each video is unique and wildly different, but they come from hours of meticulous research to find the perfect obscure clips, or in some cases, making content from scratch.

The videos, besides being a creative outlet for the participants, are simply for the vibes: “My friends and I love to throw on a video to play in the background while we play music and hang out - as one does. It’s always awesome when the music we play syncs up with a random video. When the beat drop happens to fall on an explosion, or a fight scene perfectly syncs with the song’s Bpm it’s just electric. We wanted to capture that moment.” Jack Goodman, the group’s founder, has also been known to prescribe his friends with a BYG video if they seem too anxious… So if your doctor's next note is a YouTube link, don't be too surprised.

The 25 participants in the next BYG video are all college students with varying editing degrees of editing skills. The last release was filled with original content, and in the future the founders hope to have all content self produced eventually: “We hope to have all content self produced. Eventually.” (Oscar Hechter, BYG Founder) The future is bright for Boost Your Guys, they're on track to make merchandise, a website, and have application processes to anyone wanting to get involved.

In a world where arts and crafts and show and tell are a thing of the past, Boost Your Guys is an opportunity for creators to create and thrill-seekers to thrill.  “I would say that Boost Your Guys is a way to express feelings that aren’t able to be put into words.” Says Oscar Hechter, BYG founder, “It provides a platform for people who wouldn’t usually express themselves artistically. Its avant-garde format could be compared to the Ernie Kovacs Show (1952) , Off the Air (2011), and Ambient Swim (2021). At the end of the day, Boost Your Guys serves as a vessel of emotion. A visually stunning medium that anyone can enjoy from the comfort of their own home.”

In the future, the group hopes to see Boost Your Guys as a household name, or even a genre. Aside from the imminent release of Boost Your Guys 4, the BYG group has an upcoming website, line of merchandise, and hell, you might even see a cookbook on the way.
